Finding the right Tom Waits

As a group we had decided that tom waits has a certain look about him, we needed to portray this is the music video, when we listened to his voice it was very husky and deep and we felt we needed someone who had a maturer look about them and who were also quite rugged looking. We wanted him to be dressed casually in the video so the video looked more casual with all the animation surrounding him.

We want his hair to be a dark brown with it looking messy as if he had just gotten out of bed, it will have grown out of its style and hang around his cheekbones, he is unshaven this 'look' we have created is linked to the name of the song 'looking for the heart of Saturday night' we obviously don't want him to look desperate and like a tramp but we do have a visual idea of what he should look like.

Research on digipaks

Digipak is a style of compact disc and DVD packaging it is a registerd tradmark of AGI media a meadwestvaco inc.

Digipaks are normally made out of cardboard and consist of a gatefold (book-style) with a paper or cardboard binder. Inside they tends to be one or more plastic trays made to hold either a CD or a DVD.

Digipak-style packaging is often used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums and tall DVD Digipak (DVDigipak)

Somtimes these paks are prone to wear with it being cardboard often printing companies recomend that they are covered in a protective UV coating.

With it being a cardboard they are now starting to produce eco friendly cases for instance being made out of recycled bottles makes the plastic section that holds the medis disk alot stronger.

Tom Waits himself

Decided that just by looking at Tom you know the sort of music he will play, as a group we decided it is vital to fine someone who had an older more rugged appeal to them.

More Planning

As we have to create a Promotional Package of a poster, digi pac and a music video it is vital that the synergy is correct so we decided that we would need to go for a certain style, we liked our idea of the road and solidarity but the practicallity of doing it probally wouldnt work as we woulod be resricted on lighting and its could delay us.
We have produced a new idea which involves animation we are interested in the idea of taking exactly what Tom Waits says and uses each computer animated objects or cardboard (not decided yet) and having them come into shot.So what i mean is where Tom Waits will say "looking for the heart of saturday night" a heart which is very cartoonised comes into shot. We really like this idea and are going to progress it.
This will also work nicely with the poster and the digi pac as it can easly be something that is reconisable.

Lyrics

We decided it was important to look into the lyrics to achieve a bigger understanding of Tom so we could convey the right thing. Obviously showing this song with somthing completly un related to these lyrics would be silly!

Well you gassed her up
Behind the wheel
With your arm around your sweet one
In your Oldsmobile
Barrelin' down the boulevard
You're looking for the heart of Saturday night

And you got paid on Friday
And your pockets are jinglin'
And you see the lights
You get all tinglin' cause you're cruisin' with a 6
And you're looking for the heart of Saturday night

Then you comb your hair
Shave your face
Tryin' to wipe out ev'ry trace
All the other days
In the week you know that this'll be the Saturday
You're reachin' your peak

Stoppin' on the red
You're goin' on the green
'Cause tonight'll be like nothin'
You've ever seen
And you're barrelin' down the boulevard
Lookin' for the heart of Saturday night

Tell me is the crack of the poolballs, neon buzzin?
Telephone's ringin'; it's your second cousin
Is it the barmaid that's smilin' from the corner of her eye?
Magic of the melancholy tear in your eye.

Makes it kind of quiver down in the core
'Cause you're dreamin' of them Saturdays that came before
And now you're stumblin'
You're stumblin' onto the heart of Saturday night

Well you gassed her up
And you're behind the wheel
With your arm around your sweet one
In your Oldsmobile
Barrellin' down the boulevard,
You're lookin' for the heart of Saturday night

Is the crack of the poolballs, neon buzzin?
Telephone's ringin'; it's your second cousin
And the barmaid is smilin' from the corner of her eye
Magic of the melancholy tear in your eye.

Makes it kind of special down in the core
And you're dreamin' of them Saturdays that came before
It's found you stumblin'
Stumblin' onto the heart of Saturday night
And you're stumblin'
Stumblin onto the heart of Saturday night
